Pitta Your Way to Glowing Healthy Skin

What is Pitta and how does it help my skin? First, let’s talk about doshas.

In Ayurveda, doshas are energies within the body that governs physiological activity. There are three doshas, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each dosha has a unique responsibility and when balanced they create a healthy body, both physically and mentally/emotionally. When they are in an imbalanced state they become aggravated creating disorders or ailments in their corresponding systems.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is an ancient practice that is holistically and consciously based. It promotes self-awareness through healthy daily and seasonal practices to connect individuals with their inner intelligence. This awareness followed with daily practices leads to a balanced healthy life. 

What do Doshas, more specifically Pitta, have to do with skin? 

Let’s talk about Pitta. Pitta is made up of fire and water elements that govern our sweat process, is responsible for body temperature, glow and luster of skin, and helps to protect it. When our skin is red and irritated that can indicate an imbalance or aggravated Pitta. When there are chronic skin conditions that can be an accumulation of Pitta, whether there is an aggravation or accumulation our skin will let us know. Skin needs to remain balanced and nourished; after all, it protects our organs from environmental toxins. Through Ayurvedic practices, we can maintain healthy glowing skin in just minutes a day. 

Here are some of our favorite Ayurvedic practices that promote skincare. 

  • Create a skin barrier especially during sunny months. This can be done by wearing your favorite fashion outfits or by using organic skincare products that have natural skin barriers in them. Beeswax creates a protective coating on the skin that combats free radicals and damage due to sun exposure. Satins that are blended with beeswax not only moisturize and nourish skin, they help provide a protective barrier so you can show off your beautiful glowing skin! 
  • Add a splash or two of Jasmine oil. Jasmine is a cooling oil that aids in reducing Pitta and enhancing skin. Jasmine is also associated with the Crown chakra which also promotes healthy glowing skin. We love using a Crown chakra roller. It takes seconds and can be used anywhere multiple times a day. 
  • Turmeric. Yes, that right, add some turmeric to your daily routine and your skin will love you. Turmeric enhances skin complexion due to its detoxifying properties. 
  • Water. Add a leaf or two of fresh organic peppermint leaf to your room temp water and hydrate your way to glowing skin
